How to place a limit order
An instant swap takes the best price the book offers right now. A limit order names your own price and waits: it rests in the same order book fillers quote into, and it executes when the market reaches it — filled by another trader's instant swap, or by a filler bot that decides your price is worth taking.
Placing one costs no gas. You sign a message; your funds stay in your wallet until the moment the order actually fills.
Steps
- Open app.textilecredit.com/s/swap and pick Limit on the mode tabs.
- Pick the pair and enter the amount to sell.
- Set your target price. It prefills at the market rate; the +0.1% / +0.5% / +1% chips set a price that much better than market, or type any price.
- Pick an expiry, from 5 minutes to 1 year. The order dies on its own when it passes — there's nothing to claim back, since your funds never left your wallet.
- (Optional) Toggle Split into slices to have the app cut the order into a ladder of smaller resting orders at the same price — see Splitting a big order below.
- Press Confirm. The first order per token asks for a one-time approval (a small transaction); after that, confirming is just a signature (one signature per slice if you split).
Your order now rests in the book. When the market reaches your price, it executes on-chain and the proceeds land in your wallet — you don't need to be online for it.
While your order rests
Your orders below the form lists everything you've placed, with a live countdown per order. Statuses:
- Open — resting, waiting for your price.
- Filled — executed; the proceeds are in your wallet.
- Cancelled — you cancelled it before it filled.
- Expired — it passed its expiry unfilled.
Two things to know while an order is open:
- Keep the balance funded. The order commits your wallet balance, not an escrow. If you spend the tokens elsewhere, the book stops offering your order until the balance is back — it shows as open but can't fill.
- Orders fill whole, not partially. One order executes exactly once, in full. If you'd rather have part of your amount fill early, use Split into slices (below) or place several smaller orders yourself.
Splitting a big order
Split into slices (off by default) cuts one order into a small ladder of resting orders at the same price, so partial fills can land as the market touches you. The app proposes a balanced ladder floored at $1 per slice below $1000 notional and $10 at/above, rounded to clean sizes and capped at 3 slices (each slice is its own wallet approval, so the cap keeps confirming quick). Expand the slice box to see the proposal, or use Customize slices to write your own — the amounts must sum to your original sell amount, and custom ladders are held to the same 3-slice cap.
Each slice is its own signed order, so you sign once per slice (the CTA reports progress). Slice submission is all-or-nothing: either every slice rests or none does, so you never end up with only half a split order live. Cancelling still happens per order.
Cancelling
Cancel is the one step that costs gas: a small transaction that permanently revokes the order's signature on-chain. That's deliberate — a signed order stays valid until its on-chain nonce is burned, so a real cancel has to happen on-chain, not just in a database. After it confirms, the order can never fill, anywhere.
What you pay
Nothing beyond the one-time approval and a cancel if you make one. The per-chain taker fee is paid by whoever fills your order, on top of your price — the price you set is exactly what you receive. See Fees.
NOTE
Limit orders need a wallet that signs typed messages directly. Safe (and other smart-contract wallets) aren't supported yet.
